Socket preservation is the most important factor in the long-term success of an extracted tooth when immediate implant placement is not possible. The use of mineralized cortical bone and mineralized cancellous particles, whether used individually or in combination, has proven to be a highly effective technique, especially when socket size and length of time before implant placement are factors. In Dr. Robert A. Horowitz and Dr. Gregori Kurtzman’s study on “Socket Preparation for Delayed Implant Placement Using a Mineralized Cancellous Allograft,” Surgical Esthetics’ materials aided in forming new bone which increased the probability of primary implant stability and a higher initial bone-to-implant contact.
